Overview... What's it all about?
In 1994, Massachusetts WIC embarked on a
program designed to integrate Using this engaging educational tool, new staff are introduced to the complex mission and goals
of the WIC Program (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children). Before receiving formal training at The WIC Learning Center, trainees at local clinic sites can learn and practice basic skills at a convenient time and at their own pace.[Top] The Modules - A Functional Approach
Massachusetts WIC chose a modular format for the
"Welcome to WIC" project, to integrate online learning experiences with their overall training plan. The modules are constructed as orientation and
basic education in mission-critical areas of WIC Program operations. The Main Menu includes modules on WIC's mission, How to Use WIC Computers, Participant Services (Nutrition Education, Checks, Referrals), and Help Using the CD/ROM program. Multimedia training projects require a myriad of technical, educational and artistic skills, and can only be manifested by many hands and minds acting in concert. FastNet Media, Ltd. created the product concept, designed the overall project plan, and managed content definition and execution. A key component of this integrated approach is "Welcome to WIC", an
Interactive Multimedia Training instrument published on CD/ROM, and distributed to local WIC offices statewide.
In the development of "Welcome to WIC",
a vast array of talent was assembled from fields as diverse as graphic design, nutrition counseling, computer programming, sound engineering, adult education and countless others. A shared vision and close collaboration yielded an application
that is both useful and fun for users.
We were privileged to develop this application with
Mary Kelligrew Kassler, Massachusetts WIC Director, and
teams of dedicated State and Local Program staff of Massachusetts WIC
...and our talented collaborators:
Jim Whinfield - Programming and instructional design
Active Image - Ted Polomis and Dorothy Karaus, graphic designers
Steve Olenick at AudioLink - Sound engineering
